Blizzard is once again turning heads with a bizarre marketing campaign. The latest Diablo IV promotion is just downright creepy: Blizzard is offering participating players a chance to win a high-end custom PC infused with real human blood.
The promo is based on the Diablo IV Season 2 Blood Harvest event, and revolves around a blood donation drive aimed at helping donation centers harvest 666 quarts of blood between October 20 and November 20. US-based players can donate blood at any qualified donation center and submit proof of their contribution on the Diablo Blood Harvest website.
To encourage participation, Blizzard has set milestones for the blood donations which can be tracked on the website. As these goals are reached, players will unlock exclusive in-game items such as weapon cosmetics, armor, and mounts. The milestones are set at 33%, 66%, and 100% of the donation goals.
Once the 100% milestone is achieved, Blizzard will give away a high-end blood-infused PC. It features powerful components that any gaming enthusiast would be thrilled to own. The PC comes with a GeForce RTX 4090 on an EK Quantum Vector waterblock, an Intel Core i9 CPU, 64GB of DDR5 RAM, and 3TB SSD storage.
Diablo IV's Season of Blood update introduces new vampiric elements into the game. Players will be able to harness the Vampiric Powers of Elite Vampires by defeating them, and there are three unique Pacts to customise armour through crafting. The update features two new local events and seven new dungeon events, as well as five end game bosses.
Whether Blizzard's Diablo marketing campaign is clever marketing or just downright weird is up for debate, but the uptake has been good with 26% progress already. All rewards will be distributed to players in-game on November 22.
